I have a chicken story I wanted to share because I usually find blessings every day while doing farm stuff and this is just one way that God drops little nuggets in my heart to bless me. I recently purchased 4 baby hens to replace the ones a possum killed. They were my best layers and I loved them so much, they even laid during the "Snow-mageddon" we had last winter. Anyway, these precious chicks were ones I was super excited about. My new kitty somehow managed to get their cage open and scattered them all over the yard. I found three but the fourth was missing all day.
I prayed and prayed for the chick all day because I love them so. Their eggs are not only my eggs but many others as well. It was nearing the end of the day and I knew I just had to trust the Lord to care for my chick. I kept reminding him of the parable of the lost sheep and the woman’s lost coin that was found. I told him “Lord I need to find that chick because that chick was me!” Soon my son sent me a photo of this little girl who was outside her shed. Before she got lost she was afraid of me, only trusting her sisters, but after such a hard day and after that cat tried to eat her and she heard my voice, she ran to me and made contented noises when I held her in my hands and close to my heart. I’m pretty sure she learned through the experience that I am not such a scary person and that the wild world is not a good place to be without me near.
It’s just so true that before Christ found me, I had only heard of Him, though it was still Him that gave me everything I needed...But when Christ found me I now only ever want to be close to Him. I’m so glad He took care of my bird.
Luke 15: 8 “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins[a] and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
